By car (+ caravan/trailer)
From the direction Lillehammer (South):
On the north side of Lillehammer on the E6 take exit RV255 towards Skei/Fåberg/Jørstadmoen/Gausdal. Turn left in Gausdal. Skåbu is already indicated. After about 65 km you come up to a t-junction (after a climb of 10%). On this T-intersection you turn left. You will find the Church on your left hand side and after this the school with svømmehal. You continue the road until you see the gas station with square on your left. Just before this square and the petrol station turn right. You continue here the way up another 300 meters and find Bustad Hyttetun on the left. From Lillehammer to Skåbu is approximately 90 kms and takes approximately 1,5 hour to complete.
From direction Otta (North):
From Lom or Dombås you drive to Otta. From Otta follow the E6 towards Vinstra. In Vinstra turn right towards the RV255. Skåbu is already indicated. In Vinstra turn right at the 2nd roundabout. You are now driving on the RV255 follow this road til Skåbu. You will find the Church on your left hand side and after this the school with svømmehal. You continue the road until you see the gas station with square on your left. Just before this square and the petrol station turn right. You continue here the way up another 300 meters and find Bustad Hyttetun on the left. From Lillehammer to Skåbu is approximately 90 kms and takes approximately 1 hour to complete. From Vinstra to Skåbu is ± 25 km and takes about half an hour.
By car (without caravan/trailer)
The Jotunheimvegen (only accessible between mid-June and mid-October)
The RV51 runs from Fagernes to Lom about halfway you the will pass Bygdin. Here you take the route Jotunheimvegen to the right (Note: toll!!). A beautiful gravel road, this route less suitable for cars with caravan or trailer. Please note that this Jotunheimvegen is closed during the winter months, but in this period can RV51 can also be closed. The route Bygdin-Skåbu is 45 km long and you must count on an hour travel time.
By bicycle
The surrounding of Bustad Hyttetun lends itself perfectly to be explored by bicycle! Car routes above are also good to ride for cyclists. It should however be noted that the E6 is prohibited for cyclists, but one can choose to drive parallel on the baksiden side. Baksiden roads are often the original roads between the villages. These roads are often very quiet and good passable for cyclists. By plane
A number of airlines (Norwegian, SAS and KLM) fly multiple times per day to Gardermoen/Oslo airport. You can choose to rent a car at Gardermoen. The travel time from Gardermoen to Bustad Hyttetun is approximately 4 hours by car.
You can also to take the train. The train station is located at Gardermoen Airport and has direct connections to Lillehammer and Vinstra. You need to book your train tickets in advance: the sooner you book, the cheaper the trip. You will find more information on: www.nsb.no
